The FOUR-WAY Test

Of the things we think, say, or do

First - Is it the truth?

Second - It is FAIR to all concerned?

Third - Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Fourth - Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Purpose: RYLA is a program to develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship in young people in the context of modern day problems.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive leadership training program for students aged 14 - 18. Talented young people attend the 3-day camp, organized by District 6510 Rotarians. Sponsoring Rotary clubs often pay for the participants expenses.

Again this year we have merged basic and advanced RYLA to provide an opportunity for more student participation. RYLA will be held Aug 1 - 3, 2008 at Lake Williamson in Carlinville, Illinois. This camp is awesome with an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, beach area, waterslides, gymnasiums, climbing wall, video arcade, miniature golf, etc., etc. We plan to take advantage of the indoor and outdoor activities available during the weekend. In addition, the sleeping facilities and cafeteria are outstanding.

Tuition for SUPER RYLA will be $250.00 per student. We will be accepting 75 students to SUPER RYLA. Please remember this SUPER RYLA will fill up fast, so have students apply early.

ATTENTION! We are offering an early application discount for RYLA tuition! Applications received postmarked by April 1st will be charged only $195.00 for tuition per student. This is a $55.00 savings! Applications received by May 1st will be charged $250.00 per student!

To promote this event, we will have fliers, applications, and medical forms at the bottom of this page that you can place in schools and Interact Clubs. They will also be available at the District Conference. Youth Coordinators and Presidents, please stop by the RYLA table to pick up your marketing packet at District Conference.

RYLA aims to: Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth; Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders; Encourage leadership of youth by youth; and Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities.

RYLA was officially adopted by Rotary International in 1971, and is one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service. RYLA programs often lead to the formation or strengthening of Rotaract and Interact clubs.

Basic RYLA Participants being honored at the Rotary Club of Metropolis meeting.
